Final 48 Hours / Now Using Backerkit
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 01:23:28 AM

We're officially in the final 48 hours of the campaign! Tell your friends! Tell your grandma! Tell your pets!

In other news, we've decided to use Backerkit for pledge management. A few of you have asked if you'd be able to upgrade your pledges after the campaign is over, and at the time we said no. Now that we're using Backerkit, you'll be able to upgrade your pledge or add on extra sets after the campaign is over.

A couple weeks after the Kickstarter is over, all backers will receive a Backerkit survey. When you fill out the survey, you'll be able to upgrade your pledge and/or add on extra sets. If you've already over-pledged on Kickstarter to receive extra sets, those funds will carry over to Backerkit and can be used to pay for any pledge upgrades and add-on sets that you select.

Stretch Goal ACHIEVED!!! $30,000 / 600% Funded!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Jul 21, 2017 at 10:29:40 PM

We did it!!! The Sahara Sands one-shot is getting made! I don't know about you, but I can't wait to play it.

Thanks for all your help getting the word out about Dice of Rolling. Seriously. This might go without saying for a Kickstarter project, but we couldn't have done it without you.

It's really exciting to us that we're going to be able to release a dice set with extras that are so great for new players. Here's the running tally of what will come with a set of Dice of Rolling:

-----

  • 29 Color-Coded Dice w/ Microfiber Dice Bag
  • Digital Download: 5th Edition Action Cards
  • Digital Download: "Sahara Sands" One-Shot Campaign
  • Digital Download: "Party Potions" RPG-Themed Drink Mixing Guide
  • Digital Download: Laser Cut RPG Token Pack Template

-----

For those of you who are seeing this and wondering "Action cards, party potions, and token pack? When did that happen?", let me catch you up. I released the token pack in a previous update, which you probably saw (it can be cut for free over at Ponoko). The Action Cards and Party Potions have been available on our website for a while. You can get them there right now by signing up for our email list, but I'll also bundle all these digital extras together into a nice package to be delivered digitally along with the the dice sets when they go out.

This project has been an amazing journey for us so far, and putting it out there has been a very personal experience. We had the idea for Dice of Rolling while playing a game late on a cold Friday night. Sahara Sands is created by one of the players from that same group. These ideas are literally coming from our table to yours, and it's been wildly uplifting to see so many people receive them with open arms.

You guys (and girls) are awesome.

100% Funded in Under 12 Hours
almost 7 years ago – Mon, Jul 17, 2017 at 08:08:21 AM

Wow, just wow. We are surprised, extatic, humbled, etc. at how today went. The project is sitting at 114% funded right now, and we hit fully funded in under 12 hours. At PKCGames, today was a very, very good day. We can't thank you all enough for your support, and we're fully ready to deliver this product to you.

Please rest assured, we've got our ducks in a row regarding manufacturing and shipping. Unless we suddenly sell a million more sets, we're confident in our timeline. And even then, we'd break the manufacturing into multiple runs and make sure to get all the current backers their rewards on time.

We can't thank you enough, but if we could it would definitely involve a lot of hugs and high fives (and possibly alcohol).

So from PKCGames to you...

Happy gaming! And we'll talk to you again soon!

Stretch Goal & Token Pack Freebie
almost 7 years ago – Mon, Jul 10, 2017 at 09:40:01 AM

Hey all,

Late Wednesday night during an awesome game of D&D, we hit 400% funded ($20,000). What a crazy week! But that's not what this update is about. The big news is we're adding a stretch goal. I've also got a neat little freebie that I hope you'll enjoy.

We had originally launched the campaign without stretch goals because we realized that they would add significant cost to each dice set, which meant we'd have to raise the price. After the huge first week though, we started thinking that maybe we could add a stretch goal back in.

We've received a lot of great ideas via comments and private messages, and I've been hard at work researching the feasibility of them. Unfortunately, physical stretch goals are still out. We just priced the dice too low to be able to afford any physical add-ons.

We are, however, able to add a digital stretch goal. It's a one-shot campaign designed by one of the players in my group. He's graciously offered to pony up his creation as a stretch goal for Dice of Rolling.

Sahara Sands Stretch Goal ($30,000)

Sahara Sands is a one-shot campaign based in an original setting. It's inspired by games such as Fallout: New Vegas. Here's a brief teaser:

Start Teaser -----------

You wipe the sweat from your brow as you take in the gaudy and eclectic sights of The Promenade. Shop after shop line the street, and further off is a giant oasis featuring four massively imposing buildings that dominate the skyline.

Everywhere you look appears to be shimmering and sparkling with a golden veneer. Greens, pinks, purples, reds, oranges and every color of the rainbow is represented. One can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed by the marvel of it all.  But beneath this gilded facade is an undercurrent of anxiety and tension. Grifters and dealers ply their trade, and shady looking denizens weave their way through the crowds of happy travelers. An unkempt child bellows a well-memorized slogan and shoves a flyer into your hand as you enter the main pavilion.

Now up close, you notice that each of the four imposing buildings are wildly distinct from one another. To the far left of the pavilion is a white castle with pink, purple, and golden accents which appears to be perpetually surrounded by floating silver & gold glitter. At the back of the castle floats a giant hot pink neon sign with alternating flashes: HOCUS! POCUS! White clouds float above this castle, and a low but massively wide ornate marble staircase leads to a 75 foot tall front door entrance.

About a quarter mile to the right, separated on all sides by a sparkling crystal clear moat is an obviously-fake-but-still-super-realistic-looking wrecked wooden pirate ship. A bridge over the moat connects the road to the busted open stern of the ship, while dolphins attract a crowd of tourists looking to pet their heads as they swim to the surface. The ship sits at the base of a 3 story tall building made of stone and wood that it is connected to. “THE SHIPWRECK” is spelled out in letters built with lightbulbs on the building connected to the ship. Goblins dressed as faux pirates put on a show duel on the beach.

To the right of the shipwreck stands an brilliant, golden pyramid of glass. The exterior is fully opaque, and tourists funnel in and out of an averaged size glass doorway at the bottom and center. The top of the pyramid shines so bright that it reflects a ray of light into the sky that goes on forever toward the heavens. Two golden bugbear statues stand watch over the front entrance, and the building sits entirely in hot red and yellow desert sand, in stark contrast to the crystal clear moat to its left. Just in front of the statues, two letters have been forged out of smooth steel: R and A, for “RA”.

Finally, to the right of the pyramid but hovering miraculously 500 feet above ground is a chunk of the earth that appears to have been uprooted. A giant flamingo-shaped structure dotted with windows is visible, and tourists are shuttled up to it via hot air balloons from a platform on the ground. You catch a glimpse of the booth on the platform manned by a freakishly tall human: BALLOON TRANSIT TERMINAL: THE FLAMINGO ISLE.

As you look past the pavilion, you notice row after row of identical houses that appear to have been hastily built many years ago, now in disrepair. A road winding around the back of the Promenade is the only way in from Sahara Sands proper, where those who serve the tourists for a living hang their hats. The rows of houses sit in the shadow of a tower hundreds of feet tall - made of brilliant silver, but tarnished and worn with the passage of time.

----------- End Teaser

I know a lot of you probably stick to more conventional fantasy settings, but we hope that Sahara Sands will be a great "gateway" campaign to get more people interested in the hobby who might be turned off by what they'd consider to be stereotypical fantasy. And while Sahara Sands might look a bit different on the outside, it will still be chock full of elves, dwarves, tieflings, and all the rest. Normal rules, races and classes still apply.

This adventure will be for characters starting at level 1. It will be relatively short, and delivered digitally as a PDF. Expect modest production values, but nothing too crazy.

Sahara Sands will be unlocked at $30,000.

Token Pack Freebie

As I did research into some of the physical stretch goal ideas, one of the things I looked into was laser cutting a generic token pack. And while laser cut tokens are way too expensive for me to just pack in with every dice set, I did discover a cool workaround that will still allow me to get these tokens into your hands. Think of it as a Kickstarter "life hack". There's a laser cutting service - https://www.ponoko.com/ - that is offering a deal where your first $20 of work is free. So naturally I went ahead and put together this token pack that can be cut for $20! I tried to include stuff that would be really versatile - for example, you can use numbers and letters to keep track of enemy groups or just about anything else, and lots of the class tokens could double for items or enemies.

Utilizing this deal, you can cut these tokens on bamboo for free, and you'll only pay shipping ($8.25). It's pretty simple. You just upload the file, select a material and place the order.

The regular tokens are 0.92 inches in diameter, and the big boss token is 1.92 inches in diameter. I'll send out a separate backer-only update with the token pack file and more detailed instructions on how to make them.

To be clear, this isn't a stretch goal. The tokens are a freebie that you can make immediately. We hope you enjoy them!
